What we did:
With this writing piece we had to write a haiku, carpe diem, elegy and a free verse. A haiku is a three verse poem, the first and the last verse with 5 syllables and the second verse has 7 syllables. A carpe diem is a poem that has the theme of living to the fullest like a poem of youth. A elegy poem has the theme of a death of someone, usually sad. And the last but not least, the free verse poem is a poem with no rules. When we finished writing all of these, we had to choose one of the poems that we wrote and finalize it. I choose my Elegy poem about my Abuelito (Grandpa).
Reflection:
When I was writing this, it was personal but it was more for my mom and dad. When I read it to my parents, my mom started crying. I like how I wrote this because I put more emotion into it. Going to Mexico City to visit my Abuelito, it has all my memories in it. Now realizing what I wrote I feel more confident writing about other people other than myself because I get to see them with my own eyes and I can write about all the things that I notice in them that they don't notice themselves. I'm one of those people that notice the small details in something. Reading through the first semester of writing I noticed that I found my way of writing later on, what I write connects to those who have been through it.
