California Supper Lotto Problem
When we came back from break, at the beginning of the semester we played the CA Super lotto. In this problem we had to find the probability of winning the lotto. The rules were:
1) Choose any 5 numbers between 1-47
2) Pick a mega number between 1-27
3) Match all five numbers and the mega number and you win
1) Choose any 5 numbers between 1-47
2) Pick a mega number between 1-27
3) Match all five numbers and the mega number and you win
1) How many different number combinations are possible for CA Super Lotto ticket?
47 46 45 44 43 [27] <Mega #
For the first number we have to choose any number between 1-47 and for the second you only have an option to choose one of 46 numbers, because you cant repeat you practically have to subtract a number for every number you choose. For an example if you choose 21 for the first number, you cant use it again so you have to subtract 1 from 47 which is 46 and with that you only have 46 numbers to choose from. Over all you cant repeat the numbers and for every number you use you subtract one. With those numbers we have to find the number of combinations possible. So you have to multiply them all and the answer you get is the amount of combinations that there are. |
2) What is the probability of winning the CA Super Lotto
To find the probability of winning the super lotto you have to find the number of winning tickets and the number of possible tickets. For the number of tickets its 5*4*3*2*1*1 because there is five numbers that you choose and one of them is a mega number that is why 1 is multiplied twice. For the number of possible tickets it is the same answer and questions #1 so it would be ---------->

3) If you match all 6 numbers, you win $8,000,000. It costs $1.00 to play. What are your expected winnings
With this you need $1.00 to buy a ticket that will give you a chance of 120 out of 4969962360, simplified is 1 out of 41416353 and that in percent is 00.0000024...%, so a really small chance that you will will win putting it in another perspective, you have a 99.9999975855% chance losing the lottery but you only lose $1.

Wednesday 2/8: I would give myself a 5 because I was working on my Weebly and trying to find information or evidence so I can put it on my digital portfolio.
Thursday 2/9: I would give myself a 5 because there was no one distracting me and I almost finished with this write up. I only have to finish a few explanations and add in images as evidence.
Friday 2/10: I would give myself a 1 because by this time I wasnt focused at all because I was distracted.
