What is MUN?
In this project we had to answer these main essential questions:
- Why is the Syrian refugee crisis happening?
- What should the rest of the world do about it?
And with those questions we had to prepare for a two day simulation of the United Nations and we will be representing one of the countries involved in the crisis. The reason why we did it was to gain experience and knowledge about how the United Nation works and what happens when there is a world crisis.
I was in committee 2, representing one of the neighboring countries of Syria, Lebanon.

About Lebanon
Being one of the neighboring countries to Syria, Lebanon is one of the targeted countries that refugees flee to. It is bordered by Syria to the North and East and Israel to the South. The main population group in the country is Shia Muslims, Sunni Muslims, Christians and Druze with a population of 4.3 million. Their relationships with refugees is that they prefer not to be involved with them because they have to take care of their own citizens because they are close to breaking point because of economy and financial issues.

Lebanon: New Refugee Policy a Step Forward
The reasons why there articles were useful to me was because it gave most of the information about the Syrian crisis affecting Lebanon and how their government was dealing with it. How I found it was with Dr.P's dp with the article recommendations. Something interesting that I found on the articles was how Lebanon was dealing with the crisis being that they are Syria's ally.

Position Paper
In the fist draft I only put basic information like how Lebanon is dealing with the crisis and how the UN was helping with the crisis. But then later on with the drafts it got more information and made it more convincing. A helpful piece of critique was from the same country as me but from a different committee. They told me to put how the country is dealing with the crisis and their relationship with it. And with that it expanded on further information of what Lebanon is doing with the crisis. What I am most proud of this piece was the introduction because it got right into the subject and immediately states Lebanon's situation.

Opening Speech
|
In the first draft I practically copied the intro of my position speech and then I put how we can solve this without giving out too much information. I didn't change it that much because I wanted it to be short and straight to the point. Something that I would change about it if I was doing MUN is to explain what we've been doing to help the crisis and our position in the crisis. A critique that has helped me was to slow down when I was going to present it and project my voice more.

Conference
What I am most proud of achieving was that I talked more than what I expected. I wrote down all of my thoughts as Lebanon and I tried to talk as much as I could and I surprised myself at the first day I talked around 7-8 times and that was more than what I had expected. In our committee since we didn't have any tables, the whole thing was more stressing because is seemed more serious and not alot of people were talking because it was intimidating. Something that I would do differently is get other countries involved so everyone could share their own Ideas and there could me more topics to discuss about. Something that teachers can do to help students get prepared is to talk with the students who have done MUN before and tell them what they need and what is expected.
