About the Chula Vista Zine Fest
The Chula Vista Zine Fest is an event that junior high school students hosted and each were a advocate for a social issue. We were in groups and we created a zine to discuss what we advocate for. Since we had to do an essay about our social topic, the more research I did, the more informed I was about animal cruelty. I did see the views of what extent is it considered animal cruelty and such but I wanted to focus on making sure that the animals had a good life instead of a life where they were treated inhumanely. People mostly focus on their lives or of the people’s close to them but not others and I wanted to open their eyes to the high chance that the lives that they don't care about is affecting their own lives. Since my topic is about animal cruelty, it focuses on how the basic needs of the animals aren't being met. For an example I explain how in factory farms, animals like chickens aren't being treated fairly at all. They don't have the basic need of food or water because they are being fed the same unhealthy food that does not benefit them at all. A social need that they don't have is certainty. Most animals that are being treated in a way that they shouldn't be treated don't have the certainty that they will live the next day. And animals that are being breed just for entertainment purposes like greyhounds are pushed to their limits when they suffer injuries that can lead them to broken bones even paralysis.
